Milk Bar House
One of the studio’s early explorations into a civic-informed residential language, the house engages with the streetscape through its retention and reinterpretation of a small former milk bar at the corner of the site.
A presence preserved
A modest, heavy masonry structure, the milk bar was retained as part of the proposal. Its solidity and direct relationship with the street became a point of reference for the house, informing its material character and measured response to the corner.
A language of weight
The project is defined by a sense of weight and enclosure. The house is composed of distinct light-brick volumes, articulated by varied openings and a stepped roofline. Together, these elements establish a balance between mass and void, privacy and outlook. Its civic quality emerges through a heavy street presence and the considered internalisation of domestic life.
