Crossing the line
A competition entry for the 2018 Chicago Prize Competition, developed in response to the theme “Crossing the Line”. The brief invited participants to identify the material and immaterial lines that shape Chicago and propose an architectural response to their urban and social consequences.
A line to occupy
Rather than crossing, dissolving or blurring these boundaries, the proposal introduces another line: a continuous architectural intervention that makes the divide legible and turns it into a place to occupy. Running east–west across the city, it passes through a range of urban conditions, bringing different programmes and communities into a shared framework.
One line, many conditions
The line operates as adaptable urban infrastructure. At different points, it becomes parkland, housing, public amenities and communal space. Its section shifts in response to each context, accommodating different uses while maintaining a continuous architectural identity.
