Congress: Garden Pavilion
A competition entry for a garden pavilion, the proposal explores landscape as room and architecture as landscape. Three lightweight greenhouses are arranged around a central grove, creating a shared garden that operates as both setting and structure.
Landscape as structure
Rather than enclosing rooms within a single building, the project constructs a sequence of rooms through landscape. A circular grove forms the centre of the composition, from which three greenhouses unfold, each containing a mix of fragrant plants. The grove becomes a naturalistic fourth room, connecting and softening the deliberately artificial structures.
A layered experience
The central grove offers a place to pause, gather and rest between the immersive greenhouse environments. Here, aromas from the pavilions mingle with the open air, drawing visitors towards familiar or intriguing scents. Moving between the grove and the greenhouses, the experience shifts between enclosure and openness, visual clarity and sensory immersion. As different plants flower across the installation, the garden’s atmosphere evolves over time.
