Anchoring Sandstone Base
Considered as a part of a new push for higher density in Sydney's inner suburbs, our scheme proposes a mix of affordable housing and market rate units. To engage constructively with the change from single and two storey housing to taller buildings, the scheme is anchored in a sandstone base that retains the datums of the street wall, responding to the existing neighbourhood material and massing conditions.
Dialogue between Past and Future
The building offers a transitioning expression of material and tectonics, a gradient between solid historic base and transparent contemporary forms. The proposal reflects a dual-desire for preserved and renewed architectural language in the same composition.
