The park that was once a road
A concept for a new urban park on a narrow strip between two synagogues in Bondi, the project seeks to transform a residual roadway into a shared community space.
From barrier to place
The project grew from an informal path used by children moving between the two synagogues. When security bollards were proposed, the client saw an opportunity to give this necessary infrastructure a broader civic role: protecting the community while contributing to the life of the place.
A civic domain
The proposal reimagines the bollard as urban furniture. Integrated into a landscaped setting, selected elements become low seats and gathering edges where children can linger, residents pause and informal encounters take place. In this way, the intervention brings together security and sociability, transforming a residual strip into an inviting setting for everyday community life.
